About The North Texas Home Guide
The North Texas Home Guide is an independent research project covering home services in the Dallas–Fort Worth market. We do two things: research what home repairs and upgrades actually cost here — water heaters, HVAC, roofs, foundations, painting, landscaping — and rank the best local companies by trade and city, using a published methodology.
Why this site exists
Most home-services information online is built to capture your phone number, not to inform you. National "cost calculators" average prices across all fifty states, then route you to a lead-broker who sells your contact info to four contractors. "Best of" lists are often pay-to-play directories where placement is bought, not earned. The number — and the ranking — you saw was never the point.
We do the opposite. There are no quote forms here, no "get matched with a pro" buttons, and no paid placements. Cost ranges are researched for one metro area with sources listed on every guide, and rankings score real public data — verified ratings, years in business, licensing, pricing transparency — with the weights disclosed on every list.
What we are — and aren't
- We are aggregators of public and semi-public data: contractor price lists, permit records, manufacturer pricing, published industry cost studies, and public business profiles (Google, BBB, state license databases), all filtered for the DFW market.
- We are not contractors, and we don't sell leads or rankings. No company can pay to appear here or to move up a list.
- We are not a real-estate site. Despite similar-sounding names elsewhere on the web, we have no affiliation with any realty brokerage, MLS portal, or home-listings service. We cover home services — what work costs and who does it well — not home sales.
- Our numbers are ranges, not quotes — and our rankings are a starting point, not a verdict. Your house, your soil, your city's permit office, and a company's current workload all move real outcomes. Use the range to judge whether a bid is normal, and the ranking to build a shortlist worth calling.
Corrections
If you're a DFW homeowner or contractor and a number or ranking detail doesn't match what you're seeing in the field, we want to know. Send the page name and what you paid, charged, or found — to [email protected]. Pages are re-checked on a regular cycle (see our methodology), and field reports are the fastest way to catch a stale figure.
